The Director General of the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction (ONLCDT), Dr. Tarek KOUR, presided today, Saturday, April 18, 2026, over the launch of the Open Forums for Drug Prevention. Held at the Office’s headquarters under the slogan “Conscious Youth, Drug-Free Society,” the event was organized in collaboration with the Old Scouts of the Algerian Islamic Scouts.
The ceremony saw the participation of the Minister of Youth, charged with the Supreme Council for Youth; the National Commissioner for Child Protection; the Director General of Judicial Affairs at the Ministry of Justice; and representatives from the National Gendarmerie Command and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
This initiative is part of national efforts to strengthen drug prevention among young people. It adopts a participatory approach involving a sample of adolescents across the national territory, aged between 13 and 16, with more than 10,000 participants expected.
In his keynote address, the Director General explained that this initiative embodies the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, aimed at building effective communication bridges with the youth. It also serves as an implementation of the National Strategy for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, emphasizing that these forums grant young people a pivotal role in the awareness process.
He further stated that the National Office, in coordination with various sectors and stakeholders, continues to intensify its awareness and sensitization activities nationwide. He noted that alongside these national efforts, Algeria is active on the international front in combating drugs, especially with the emergence of new psychotropic substances that have not yet been included in international schedules despite their direct impact on youth.
It is noteworthy that this campaign will continue until next June, culminating in a National Forum. During this closing event, the recommendations of the participating adolescents will be presented and adopted as essential references for the preparation of a Drug Prevention Manual.
