On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center hosted the official celebration ceremony organized by the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction. The event was held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid TEBBOUNE, and was attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, members of the government, representatives of security services, national and international bodies, and civil society actors.
The celebration began with the reception of guests, followed by the national anthem. This was followed by the screening of an awareness-raising clip featuring the national football team, produced by the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction in cooperation with the Algerian Football Federation and sponsored by Mobilis. This initiative aims to utilize sports and the influence of national team stars to instill a culture of prevention and raise awareness about the dangers of drugs, especially among the youth.
In his opening speech, the Director General of the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction, Dr. Tarek KOUR, reviewed the major efforts made in implementing the national strategy for drug prevention and control. He emphasized that tackling this scourge is a collective responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of all stakeholders, the strengthening of awareness and prevention programs, and the expansion of partnerships between various sectors.
The Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals also delivered a speech in which he underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen the legislative framework for drug control and the enforcement of legal provisions.
For his part, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the State’s commitment to continue implementing the national drug control strategy and to mobilize all human and material resources to confront this scourge.
He commended the efforts exerted by various security services and partner sectors in protecting society and enhancing health and social security.
The program included the screening of the institutional film “One Year Since the Launch of the Strategy… Together We Rise to the Challenge,” which highlighted the key milestones and results achieved since the launch of the national strategy. This was followed by a video documenting the outcomes of the open forums, and the reading of recommendations, which stressed the necessity of strengthening prevention among adolescents and youth, intensifying awareness campaigns, expanding partnerships with civil society and the media, and supporting programs for the treatment and reintegration of addicted individuals.
The occasion also featured a ceremony for the signing of commemorative postage stamps dedicated to the International Day Against Drug Abuse, as well as the screening of a documentary film detailing the national drug destruction operation carried out on June 26, 2026, reflecting the state’s commitment to combating all forms of illicit drug trafficking.
The celebration concluded with a ceremony honoring security services that distinguished themselves in carrying out high-quality operations in the field of drug control. The Prime Minister oversaw the distribution of honors, in recognition of their efforts to protect the nation and its citizens and to confront illicit drug trafficking networks.
This national event reaffirms Algeria’s commitment to continuing its comprehensive approach to drug control by combining prevention, awareness, legal deterrence, and therapeutic care, while strengthening partnerships between various actors to build a conscious, safe, and drug-free society.
