The Director General of the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction, Dr. Tarek KOUR, alongside the Director General of the National Institute of Public Health, Professor Abderrazak BOUAMRA, presided today, Monday, August 3, 2026, over the signing of a framework cooperation agreement between the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction and the National Institute of Public Health. Furthermore, four (04) specific agreements were signed to launch four specialized epidemiological studies:
– An epidemiological study among the general population.
– An epidemiological study within the school setting.
– An epidemiological study within the university setting.
– A study on overdose-related fatalities.
The execution of these national epidemiological studies concerning the prevalence of the drug phenomenon in Algeria aims to develop an accurate national map detailing the geographical distribution of narcotic substance consumption. It also seeks to establish a permanent institutional framework for scientific and technical cooperation between the two parties in fields pertaining to prevention, epidemiological surveillance, scientific research, studies, training, and the exchange of information and expertise, thereby supporting the implementation of the National Strategy for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
