An Algerian delegation is participating in the proceedings of the 69th Regular Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), held at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna from March 9 to 13, 2026. The delegation includes representatives from the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction (ONLCDT), the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, and the National Gendarmerie Command.
On the sidelines of the session, the Algerian delegation participated on 9 March 2026, in a high-level event titled “The Evolution of the Synthetic Drug Market in Arab Countries: Developments and Responses,” following an invitation from the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS). The event was attended by Ambassador Larbi Latrouch, along with Mr. Hanifi Sofiane, representing the ONLCDT, and Mr. Mansouri Rostom, representing the Ministry of Justice.
Furthermore, the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction co-organized a side event on March 10, 2026, at the Vienna International Centre entitled “Hybrid Cannabis: An Escalating Threat to Public Health and National Security.”
The event was opened by Ambassador Larbi Latrouch and featured presentations by experts and representatives from the National Gendarmerie Command, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Health.
Discussions highlighted the growing dangers of hybrid cannabis to public health and societal security. The session also showcased Algeria’s experience in drug prevention and control, while providing an overview of the national legislative framework and the National Strategy for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
