Yesterday evening, Wednesday, 4 March, 2026, the Director General of the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction, Dr. Tarek KOUR, inaugurated an awareness-raising space at the Great Mosque of Algiers (Djamaâ El Djazaïr) dedicated to drug prevention and motivating individuals to overcome addiction.
The opening of this awareness space is part of the National Awareness Campaign organized by the National Office during the holy month of Ramadan, under the slogan: “Ramadan: An Opportunity to Overcome Addiction“, This initiative is carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Communication, the Rectorate of the Great Mosque of Algiers, and mobile network operators.
In his keynote address, the Director General praised the mobilization of all sectors and state institutions within the national dynamic aimed at combating drugs and raising awareness of their dangers and prevention.
He also commended the significant role played by various departments in ensuring the success of this campaign, calling on all community stakeholders—particularly educators, imams, parents, and the media—to support the youth with an enlightened discourse to prevent them from falling into the scourge of drugs.
The awareness space saw the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Health, the National Gendarmerie Command, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), Algerian Customs, the Anciens Scouts Islamiques Algériens, and various civil society organizations.
The event featured awareness presentations and guidance for youth provided by Sheikh Tahar Dharoui, representing the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Dr. Imad Ben Amer, Director of the Mosque Space, representing the Minister of State, Rector of the Great Mosque of Algiers. Additionally, an interactive discussion was held between citizens and imams regarding the phenomenon of drug addiction, methods of recovery, and available treatment paths.
